F O R D writer The tumor became an albatross you carried as if at sea, in dangerous waters, longing only to be free. I meant to tell you, Connor, before you went missing I loved you more in your sickness, than when you were well. It was your feisty, indomitable spirit that engaged me in pure delight, time and again! During your last appearance after embracing your heavenly orders your wings began slashing the air like two brandished swords. Your iridescent feathers arched and flickering in the sacrificial light. When I chose you, Connor, you were a troubadour adorned in a pale blue, tailored suit. You wore the badge of fidelity even from the beginning. You dazzled the morning light with your irrepressible prophetic songs! In the evening, you disappeared into your feathers, whispering your vespers. I never dreamed when you got that tumor, you would live beyond all odds. For six months you hoisted yourself up the sidebars of your cage to your beloved perch and painstakingly, down again.
