I love walking around the garden in winter with its achromatic landscape, enjoying the stillness and lack of distractions except for the sound of my boots crunching in the snow. It's a great time of year to appreciate the forms and structures of plants, and observe them while they are hibernating. When every limb, branch, and stem is evenly frosted, it's the glitter and sparkle season that Mother Nature helps decorate. The quiet tones of winter are a soothing, good time to meditate on these walkabouts or to assess one's outdoor space. The deciduous trees and shrubs show their true forms—spare and clear in a landscape that's both subtle and somber.
