FOUR DARK DAYS IN NOVEMBER D I A N E S P E A R E T R I A N T writer A 50-Year Retrospective on President Kennedy's Death on the afternoon of Friday, November 22, 1963, I was a teenager on my way home from school. Mom was driving me, and she had the radio on. It was then that I heard shocking news: our president had been shot. Just three years previously – during his run for office – I had received a firm handshake from John Fitzgerald Kennedy on his Hyannisport lawn. Now, he was fast losing his grip on life.
