In polite society, it was swept into dark corners along with "The Curse." Or it was touted in advertising as a "disease." Women didn't have many ways to share their experiences to know what was normal and what was not. Nowadays it's a world of websites and support groups and doctors with specialized menopause training. There are mainstream products aimed at the menopause demographic. There's even an off Broadway show, "Menopause: The Musical," complete with bawdy lyrics and a huge loyal following. Women in the MetroWest area have always had the benefit of living within shouting distance of the great teaching hospitals and research facilities of Boston.
