with finished films and open endings. For the teenage girls held hostage and sold for sex in anonymous hotel rooms. For the undocu- mented Mexican high school students who go up against (and beat) engineering students at MIT in a robotics competition. For the strug- gling student or athlete urged on by a believ- ing mother. For the female athletes offered the modest pittance within a sea of plenty. For the young entrepreneurs dreaming of what might they might create while moving through a landscape of abject poverty. For all of these unlikely and often confounding heroes, they and their advocates step onto a stage from which to bear public witness. "Cool hand" Luke's nemesis, the prison warden, scoffs at the defiance of his petulant prisoner with these words: "What we've got here is failure to communicate." Mary and her 50 Eggs team offer her can-do stars the megaphone through which to clearly com- municate: Tackling head on such disturbing social trends as the increasing "normaliza- tion" of immoral (and illegal) behavior, as well as offering up the stabilizing influence of the power of dreams … and the resiliency of the human spirit.
