in today's parlance a "disrupter." Ten years ago, she might have been described as a "change agent." But I think of Mary as an interrupter and a disrupter, for the walls she seeks to break down or crash through, she also seeks to build up, through the tales of unlikely heroes who rise up in spite of settings and circumstances stacked against them. It's revealing to tell the story behind her film company's name: 50 Eggs. The movie aficionado (of a certain age) will recognize a compelling scene within the movie Cool Hand Luke. In it, the incarcerated and alternately admired/reviled protagonist, Luke (played by Paul Newman), accepts the jail-house wager: consuming 50 eggs in one sitting. That movie is one of Mary's favorites, and that particular scene — the audacity of the accepted (and wildly improbable) wager by Luke — is emblematic of Mary's natural inclination: Doing what others think is impossible. Add to the referential name of her company the graphic overlay of the 50 Eggs logo — dozens of eggs boiling away in a pot — and you have a symbolic representation of Mary, "bubbling R I C H A R D E S C H U L T Z " W e a r e h e l l b e n t o n t r y i n g t o m o v e t h e n e e d l e . . .t o e r a d i c at e t h e s a l e o f c h i l d r e n o n l i n e .
