imagine the Possibilities." That's the message from the Weston Art & Innovation Center, known by its acronym, the "WAIC." Now in the design stage, the WAIC will be located in the former Weston Public Library on Boston Post Road. As a part of the present library, the center will provide hands-on learning opportunities related to art and technology. The Weston Media Center will also be located in the new facility, allowing for greater community access to this important town resource. The vote for construction funds will be on the warrant at the upcoming November Special Town Meeting. If approved, the WAIC will open to the public approximately one year later, in late 2018. Even without a physical space, the WAIC's energetic Advisory Board has been imagining — and demonstrating — the possi- bilities. Technology, the arts, and confections of all kinds will be in evidence at "Sweet Innovations," a community event planned for Sunday afternoon, October 22, at the Weston Community Center. There will be tastings, cake decorating demonstrations, candy- building projects, and competitions for the most beautiful and "most techy" confections. Doris Sullivan, chair of the Library Trustees, marvels at the energy and enthusiasm created by the WAIC proposal. Under the direction of board members Audrey Pepper, an independent arts professional, and Nicole Mordecai, a photographer and software designer, the WAIC has already sponsored programs on dry-point printmaking, plein-air painting, Photoshop gift making, GoPro and sports photography, polymer clay jewelry making, and bicy- cle repair. Open mic nights are happening approximately every other month in the Town Hall auditorium. the Possibilities P A M F O X writer N I C O L E M O R D E C A I photographer " 103 W e l l e s l e y W e s t o n M a g a z i n e | f a l l 2 0 1 7
