for making too much noise, as well. "It was early afternoon, and only the quiet ones in the group were chatting up a storm," clarifies Beth, underscoring the exuberance of the BC gals' gatherings. Support Systems The Rat Pack women believe that their friendships have grown stronger over the years, despite the miles and diverse life paths among many in the group. Gina Lambert, a lawyer in New York, comments, "We've had the unique privilege of going through devel- opmental stages together: our first steps as independent adults after college, launching our careers, weddings, babies, divorces, sec- ond careers, retirements, and parents pass - ing away. We've been there for each other through thick and thin." Fellow Rat Pack member Mary Obermayer expresses it this way, "Because we are all the same age and often going through similar experiences almost at the same time, my college friends have been great support for me. We are usu- ally accepting of one another, and when not accepting, typically forgiving."
