It is, however, a cau- tionary tale about the opiates epidemic that is well worth the telling. It is mainly a story about drugs and addiction, of course. And while it is in part surprisingly inspirational, it is also about the choices we make every day, sometimes quite casually, and possibly very much to our detriment. This is also a story about one woman's desperate promise that is being kept with the help of a friend—and in quite wonderful ways. Going Public Let's start with Wayland resident Juli Frawley. Brave soul that she is, she has gone public to keep a promise to herself and because having been through the fire of loving an addict, she is compelled to act. One very bad day when Juli thought she was about to lose her teenage daughter to drug addiction, she made a bargain with the Almighty, and now after years of rehabilitation, her child has been saved. In response, she is keeping her end of the bargain. "I was sitting on the porch of our summer home in Maine, looking out across the water," Juli explains. "And I cried, and then I prayed, and then I promised that if I could get my daughter back and find some way to return her life to normalcy, I would do something to help others struggling with addiction."
