Against that advice, his mom and dad kept him in the public school system, but he needed a tutor every day from first grade through high school. When it came time for him to apply to colleges, he was not accepted to a single school. It was no wonder then that when he graduated in 1979 with his Ph.D. in psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, it was one of his and his parents' proudest moments. In fact, his classmates had a surprise for him. They read a letter from President Jimmy Carter congratulating him on overcoming his learning hardships. How did he go on to achieve such an accomplishment?
