A Dog's Best Friend Louise Coleman she wasn't quite sure would fit into her happy family life. But as in many of the best love stories, opposites eventually did attract, and Kathy, the suburban wife and mother of two, and Pops, the former dog track racer, fell in love. Yes, they did live happily ever after until Pops' death several years later, but that is only the beginning of this story. About six years after Pops came to the Mahoney house, Kathy was inspired to start volunteering with Greyhound Friends, the organiza- tion run by Coleman that Kathy's daughter had read about all those years ago. Founded in 1983, Greyhound Friends is one of the oldest and largest greyhound rescue organizations in the country, having placed 94 WellesleyWeston Magazine | summer 2012
