Long ago, he and his dad had stayed at a grand old resort in the town that's synonymous with baseball, leaving him with fond memories. And when our sons were young, we'd had fun at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. But the boys are now men. Our focus has changed. On a three-day getaway, would the two of us find enough to do? It was the perfect distance for a road trip, four hours from Boston through the Berkshires to central New York. I dug deeper, seeking things we might do beyond relaxing and the world of baseball. Up popped images of a picturesque pocket of Americana offering culture, history, recreation, and rural charm. Cooperstown is a place that inspires legends and where history is venerated. At the heart of it all is Otsego Lake, the nine-mile-wide headwaters of the Susquehanna River.
