lacrosse, field hockey, and football will benefit from this project. But it's not just the athletes who use the field. The community uses the track to walk and jog, and kids play Frisbee and other sports on the field as well. "Rehabilitating the track and field will help the town address the growing demand for usable field space, benefit a broad seg- ment of the Wellesley community, provide a high quality, central location for many high school sports, and serve as a focal point in the community," said Sheehan. "With today's obesity issues and screen-time use, encour- aging our youth to get out and exercise is a good thing." In 2014, Joe Roberts and Chris Cavallerano founded a nonprofit organization to support field and facility development, Community Investors. As the fiscal agent for the Field Fund, Community Investor's nonprofit status allows donors to make tax deductible contri- butions to the capital campaign. Last fall, Community Investors also organ- ized a flag football fundraiser and donated a portion of the funds to the WFF. Wellesley resident Carol Chaoui donated part of her proceeds from the Turkey Trot to the fund, and The Local restaurant donated 100 percent of the proceeds from its Beer Tasting dinner in November. "We're very fortunate to be in a town with such generous people – through their hearts, their time, and their financial means," added Lisa Wesley. "It's great to see a community come together to raise money when there's a real need for our kids." 126 W e l l e s l e y W e s t o n M a g a z i n e | s p r i n g 2 0 1 6 Field of Dreams
