million — one third of which will come from Wellesley residents and local businesses. The Wellesley Field Fund In 2015, the Wellesley Field Fund (WFF) was created as a grassroots organization to raise the $900,000 needed by the end of 2015. Lisa Wesley, Wellesley resident and mother of two, spearheaded the organization. "I am passion- ate about this project because the residents of Wellesley need a new field — it's been there since the 1940s. The goal posts date back to the 1960s. The way it's pitched if there's snow or rain, our kids end up playing in mud. And the track is dangerous because of the holes," she said. The private fundraising effort also includes a group led by Wellesley resident Mike Jennings, which is raising funds to be donated in the name of Connor Darcey, a former WHS lacrosse player who died tragi- cally in an automobile accident last summer. Added Dr. Lussier on the project cost, "We know we're going back to the voters on so many significant school projects, but some of this is playing catch-up for facilities work that has been put off for too long, so it's never been more important." If the townwide vote passes in March 2016, the town will begin construc- tion on the new field in May with completion before the start of the new school year.
