Stay Recently purchased and completely renovated by Wellesley husband and wife team Gwenn and Mark Snider, the NANTUCKET HOTEL & RESORT is located at 77 Easton Street in the heart of Nantucket, and within walking distance to the ferry, shopping, restaurants, and town beaches. Billed as the island's only "premier, all-season destination hotel and resort," the building's grand exterior may take you back to 1891 Nantucket, but the interior is 2015 with all of the modern con- veniences that today's travelers have come to expect. This could be one reason why the hotel was recently named #18 in the Top 25 Hotels in the United States by Trip Advisor Travelers' Choice Awards. A new wing of five luxury cottage guest suites just opened this past summer and each one exudes a glam- orous, breezy, coastal living vibe. Think classic beach house with a twist. Nautical chic d├ęcor and furnishings in crisp blues and whites add to the casual elegance. The hotel also features a fitness center and spa, two heated swimming pools, a hot tub, and an outdoor sauna for cool autumn evenings. The resort's Breeze restaurant is open year-round and new Executive Chef Josh Schoen is reportedly working magic in the kitchen. The Sniders also own the Winnetu Oceanside Resort on Martha's Vineyard, and guests at the Nantucket Hotel & Resort can opt for a special island hopping experience through October 18. Called the "Sea for Yourself " package, guests can explore both fall every year, the fall dates for 2015 are September 28 through October 4. Visit www.nantucketrestaurantweek.com for a list of participating restaurants. Some personal favorites are CRU OYSTER BAR (www.crunantucket.com) at One Straight Wharf. The waterfront location is perfect for enjoying the cool autumn sea breeze and makes for prime people-watching as boaters dock their vessels right up against the restaurant's walls. To get into the spirit of Nantucket's Heart of the Sea history, try the SHIP'S INN. Located on 13 Fair Street in a whaling captain's mansion built in 1831, the dining room is cozy, intimate, and romantic. And Chef Mark Gottwald's dishes are deli- cious. Another waterfront favorite is STRAIGHT WHARF RESTAURANT (www.straightwharfrestaurant.com) at No. 6 Harbor Square. Seafood is the star on this menu, which also features a cheese course from Wellesley's own Wasik's Cheese Shop.
