path to earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, and a successful career in the elder care business. Solomont is quick to credit his success to the group of people with whom he has worked over the years. Without much affinity or training for business, he explains, "I learned early on in my adult life that the team is better than the individual. That's why I always try to surround myself with smart people." In fact, for 50 years after the launch of his first nursing home facility, he sent flowers every year to the founding Director of Nursing to thank her for her dedication to her work and their achievements. Years later, the press officer on his staff at the US embassy in Madrid voiced his appreciation for Solomont's commit- ment to his coworkers, writing, "You always made me feel an appreci- ated member of your team here, but not only that, you made me feel part of your inner circle and that I will never forget."
