Beyond playgroups, the WMF message board, aka "the forum," is a great resource for everything from buying and selling items to find- ing a good plumber. There are helpful, informative discussions on it as well. "There's a huge social side to the Wellesley Mothers Forum, too," adds Colone. "At the social events you're not just the mom bonding over your child's sleeping problems. It's a way to feel normal once a month — to go out and have a cocktail and connect with other moms." Wellesley mom Paige Fisher agrees. "I've heard some of the best lectures in Wellesley through the Wellesley Mothers Forum. You head over to the Wellesley Country Club for ice cream and/or wine at 7:00 p.m. and the lecture begins at 8:00. I've heard about everything from helicopter parenting to allergies in kids to taking care of yourself as a busy working parent. They've all been by widely known writers, doctors, professors, etc. I keep my membership for that alone!" WMF (www.wellesleymothersforum.com) Membership Benefits n Playgroups to connect moms with kids of similar ages n Informative parenting lectures and seminars n Online community with message boards and classifieds n Working moms network/events n Support for moms of children with special needs n Moms', family, and couples' events n Community outreach opportunities n Exclusive merchant discounts at 100+ local business n Helping Hands support in times of need The Weston Dads Foundation While the brunt of childrearing often falls on the mother's shoulders, the WDF was founded more than 20 years ago to encourage strong bonds between fathers and their children. Now a nonprofit, the foun- dation provides a way for fathers to spend quality, one-on-one time with their children by offering educational, recreational, and charitable activities that they can participate in together. With the goal of educat- ing fathers about childrearing challenges and the importance of their role, WDF holds events that bring the community together. 162 W e l l e s l e y W e s t o n M a g a z i n e | s p r i n g 2 0 1 5 top left: The Wellesley Mothers Forum Fall Carnival bottom left: Friday drop-in at the WCCA above: Benjamin, Alex, and Colin at the WCCA mini marathon family matters "one-on-one time with their children" M A R Y K A T E S H O R T E R P E T E R S U E
