You may have managed dozens of individuals, launched projects, built companies, and negotiated deals. But when a new baby arrives, your well- organized world is turned upside down. The only thing that's predictable now is the fact that life is now even more unpre- dictable. And those negotiation skills? Unfortunately they're useless with a cry- ing infant at 3:00 in the morning. So where do you turn for support? Look beyond the books, lectures, and child-rearing experts to the most sup- portive, understanding, and savvy people: other parents. Like you, they're finding their way through the peaks and valleys of parenthood — life's greatest equalizer. The truth is, it doesn't matter how much you've accomplished or how successful you are. When it comes to parent- ing, everyone needs support. One Wellesley mom, Michelle Chalmers, started a Moms Group about six years ago. She loved the idea of a book club where women got together and shared thoughts and ideas, but she wanted to do it without the books. "I invited about 12 moms to our first meeting at my home. The idea was to have a safe, trusted place to come and talk about issues that were important to each of us," explains Chalmers. "I thrive on learning from others who have grown up in different places, speak different languages, and have different parenting ideas and techniques." And her group is still going strong today.
