Even though she was starting small, Tsai found herself dipping deeply into personal savings, maxing out her credit cards, and selling her engagement ring for $30,000 to finance the fledgling company. It was worth it. The blotting papers were picked up by nationally known makeup artists and celebrities who gave them wide exposure in both TV and print media, includ- ing magazines such as Vogue and Allure. Today, TATCHA offers a full line of skin- care products. Its focus is on its four-step beauty ritual set that includes oil cleansers, skin polishers, brightening serums, and mois- turizers that are prepared from green tea, red algae, and rice bran. Murray notes that the ingredients are very similar to the Japanese diet. "As Vicky likes to say, 'It's like sushi for your skin.' The Japanese have one of the longest life expectancies in the world.
