In preparation for the 2013 block party, neighborhood kids eagerly helped pass out flyers, and Hutchins and her fellow coordinators did an email blast. About 80 people attended, but given that there are more than 100 homes in the neighborhood, that number will likely grow. "We had a bouncy house, a face painter, an arts and crafts table, a basketball hoop, and other games, so there was something for everyone," says Hutchins. It was a potluck event so neighbors brought an appetizer or dessert to share. There was also a popcorn machine and a pizza oven for making per- sonal pizzas. And later on, there were s'mores around a firepit. Hutchins says, "Our neigh- borhood has such a community feeling. Kids are always playing outside, and everyone is so welcoming.
