"I love the look," he says, "but it gets really hot." While not a huge fan of pavers, he will swap out authentic bluestone with look-alikes to keep the heat down. Lawn straight up to the pool's coping lends a fresh, modern look. Also, big squares of decking that have enough space for a hint of grass to peek up and tickle the bottoms of your bare feet. As for other plant life, it can be nice to work some plantings in, but be sure to leave enough room between beds and the edge of the pool in case you need immediate access to that side of the pool.
