unmistakable team spirit, which makes a big social impact," she says. "It's very heartwarming to see everyone get a chance to share in the team spirit, and it has so many lasting emotional benefits." The history behind the founding of AccesSport is a personal one. Previously, Lilley was a pastor for 20 years at the South Acton Congregational Church, and parenting a son born with cerebral palsy and tetraplegia. "While I was a minister, the focus of my ministry was 'radical inclusion'," he says. "I thought that whatever we do in life, everybody should have the opportunity to participate if they wanted to." The idea for AccesSportAmerica came from that belief, and while Lilley worked at both endeavors simultaneously after founding AccesSport in 1995, he made the choice to become Executive Director of AccesSport full time in 2001. "People often say we've changed their lives, giving their families a new lens in which to see their kids, or we have given people a new spark of rehabilitation and elevated them to a new level of function," he says. Around the time that Lilley left his church to focus exclusively on AcessSport, a family of five arrived in Boston, hoping to get involved years ago, we had just moved to the area, and we were looking for a charity to support that would involve our three children," recalls Debby Belichick.
