ROBERT TERRY "You could hardly dig a hole," she notes. With enough space and an abundance of deciduous trees, she and her husband compost leaves and lawn cuttings along with kitchen waste. Over the years they have brought the depth of loam in the beds to eight inches. Her garden is a mix of perennials and shrubs, in seven to nine different areas that she tackles one at a time to redesign. There are several microclimates. "I don't ever toss a plant," she says. "I try to figure out what it needs that it's not getting, and if that fails, I try a new location. If that fails, then I might look for a happier home in a friend's garden." Belonging to Weston Garden Club has been a pleasure and inspiration. Monthly lectures on a wide range of topics entice these gardeners to try new things. Design and horticulture workshops teach skills that are gardeners share companionship and knowledge with others who love to garden.
