Named for a line in "America the Beautiful" written by Katharine Lee Bates, who was born in Falmouth and later resided in Wellesley, the Shining Sea Bikeway hugs the coast from Falmouth to Woods Hole, and then winds along the Vineyard Sound shoreline. Ideal for casual and beginner cyclists, it was built on the original route of the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad. For parts of the 10.7 miles, you'll take in the sights of both shining sea and bay. About a ten-minute walk from the village, the Nobska lighthouse overlooks Vineyard Sound and the Elizabeth Islands, as well as Woods Hole itself.
