In polite society, it was swept into dark corners along with "The Curse." Or it was touted in advertising as a "disease." Women didn't have many ways to share their experiences to know what was normal and what was not. Nowadays it's a world of websites and support groups and doctors with specialized menopause training. There are mainstream products aimed at the menopause demographic. There's even an off Broadway show, "Menopause: The Musical," complete with bawdy lyrics and a huge loyal following. Women in the MetroWest area have always had the benefit of living within shouting distance of the great teaching hospitals and research facilities of Boston. This area has always boasted excellent physicians and a knowledgeable population. As a result, many women are well-informed about some of the extra special treats that menopause can offer up.
