All the school chairs concur that the funds from the fairs go to supporting the creative arts and sponsoring extracurricular activities. "We were able to bring in two 'authors in residence' for two separate classes last year," recounts Keri Boyle, the covice president for the Hardy PTO. "Jarrett Krosoczka came in once a week for the third and fourth grade class and Ben Winters came in for the first and second grade class. They would each coordinate with the teachers on their weekly talk, focusing on items such as the importance of illustration in a book and how different the book would be with a different illustration. The kids just loved it." Some schools also will use the funds to pay for continuing education for the teachers or practical needs like child-sized furniture for the library.
