Wellesley School Fairs Hardy Beach Party n 2013 will mark the 5th year, newest fair in town n Held in early June n Have the popular go-kart ride as well as other mechanical rides — like the swinging pirate ship — and inflatable obstacle course n March in the Wellesley Parade as part of the Wellesley Wonderful Weekend and hand out a PAUL LESLIE - SMITH series of golden tickets that will provide the recipient a free ride at the fair n Weather dependent Hunnewell Fun Fair n Held the Friday of the Wellesley Wonderful Weekend n Have a number of mechanical rides —including swinging pirate ship and super slide Schofield Road Race and Fun Fair n 2013 will mark the 20th year n Held first Sunday in June, rain or shine n "Take a Cake" walk is a perennial highlight n Have a 5k and a 1k (150 kids ran the 1k in 2012) n Weather dependent n Will have obstacle course in 2013 for 20th anniversary as well as traditional games at the fun fair At Bates, where a silent auction and raffle are included in the fair festivities, teachers will raffle off different activities. For example, the gym teacher will raffle a hiking trip to Blue Hills. Others will offer a movie afternoon after school, when kids will dress in their pajamas and the teacher will make popcorn. "One of Libby's—my daughter's—highlights was winning a date with her teacher in the third grade," remembers Foley. "She and a few classmates went to lunch at California Pizza Kitchen, then dessert at J.P. Licks, all We l l e s l e y We s t o n M a g a z i n e | s p r i n g 2 0 1 3 followed by the teacher purchasing a book for each of them from Wellesley Books. All of these activities were completely teacherfunded and they try to stay within the community as a thank you for all that the merchants donate to the fair." 118
